PRIMARY EDUCATION (K-3) RESOURCES
FOR BILINGUAL EDUCATORS
This page contains links to information, curriculum, etc. for K-3 bilingual educators, as well as links for Spanish-speaking children. Please e-mail me with online resources that would fit the above description and I will add them to this list. Even better, if you have access to a Web server, set up your *own* K-3 Bilingual (Spanish) Web page and I will provide a link to it.
-
Lucerito's Music
- This web page lists cassettes containing children's songs in Spanish. These cassettes, recorded by Stanley Lucero, are a wonderful resource that every primary bilingual teacher should have! Many years ago (1982?), I attended a workshop by Stanley at the AMAE Conference, during which he performed some of his songs. I loved his adaptations and guitar accompaniment. I immediately purchased his cassettes and they have been a hit ever since with my many classes.
- Platypus Webworks
- Top pick! This awesome site for teachers, parents and kids encompasses stories, songs, chat, and a multitude of other interesting things that take advantage of the newest Internet technologies and use them to create a truly interactive web site! Although the site is not (yet) fully bilingual, a number of pages and activities are in Spanish. Don't miss this great site and plan to spend some time just looking around. They also offer a tour, where you can see at a glance what is available and which pages and/or activities are in Spanish.
- Juegos y Canciones
- This site offers a collection of different songs and games that can be used in a primary classroom.
- Biblioteca Infantil
- This wonderful site for children is provided by a server in Mexico. The contents contain a variety of children's literature in Spanish. As of this writing, many of the links to stories are still under construction, but there are two online stories for children to read.
- Un lugar infantil
- This is a great site for kids and is written entirely in Spanish.
- Cuentos de Ika Bremer
- Interactive, little stories for children. In the stories, children click on a link to take them to the next page. Cute graphics. If you begin with her home page, you can also select stories in Spanish, English or Dutch and her main character, Blá-Blá, will navigate you to her list of stories in the language you have clicked on. Kids will really enjoy these little stories and the cute illustrations!
- Mrs. Rodríguez' Class
- Student work in Spanish from Mrs. Rodríguez' class. Computer artwork and stories written by students. A very nice resource for children in bilingual classrooms. The beginnings of a student-authored Spanish library on the World Wide Web! Hopefully, more sites like this one will become available.
- Carlos' Coloring Book
- I debated whether or not to include this site, since it is only in English. However, since it is for kids and it makes great use of interactivity over the web, I've decided to include it. You select a picture to color from a list. You then select a color from a list and click on a portion of the picture that you want to color. That portion is then filled with whatever color you selected. You can download the picture when have finished coloring it. Teachers may need to do some translation the first time through. You may want to provide a written equivalent of the colors in Spanish so the kids can find the color they want.
- Paso Partners Home Page
- Lesson plans in Spanish and English for K-3 teachers! Great online resource!
- KidPub
- KidPub is a Web site where teachers can submit student stories to be published on the Web! This is a wonderful opportunity for bilingual teachers to publish their students' writing on the Web! This Web site will even accept pictures to publish with the story. If you are a school administrator, you may be interested in putting your school on this site. KidPub Schools is a page devoted to various schools. You can include information about your school as well as stories from students.
- Nuestro Día con la Cuardia Costera and Agua y Niños
- These are two coloring books on the U.S. Coast Guard's web site which are available for downloading and coloring. Unfortunately, the text is all upper-case which may be difficult for beginning readers. Also, the parent letter is only available in English. However, this is a resource in Spanish, and for that reason, I have included it on this page. These two books, as well as several others, are also available in English.
