California's Unz Initiative


California's Unz Initiative would effectively put an end to Bilingual Education in California. The following links are provided to help explain the ramifications of the Unz Initiative.

The Anti-Bilingual Initiative - Does the Truth Matter? is an exchange between Jim Shultz, executive director of The Democracy Center and Ron Unz.  In this exchange, Mr. Shultz shows how the statistics have been manipulated to provide the "95% failure rate of LEP students to learn English" that Ron Unz and others are claiming. The Pájaro Valley Coalition for an Educated America has many articles on Prop 227 as well as information on obtaining videos on the Unz Initiative.







The  NCBE (National Clearinghouse for Bilingual Education) Roundtable offers a great forum for discussion on various issues related to bilingual education.  This is a very active list and there is currently much discussion regarding the Unz Initiative.







The organization, Citizens For an Educated America: No on Unz has compiled a website with information on this initiative.






In Responding to Unz, Dr. Stephen Krashen responds to Unz' recent position paper, pointing out misstatements, distortions and factual errors.
