ESTRELLITA in Prekindergarten

		Workshop Focus:


		

		Estrellita's new Prekindergarten Early Literacy Program will be introduced at this inservice and will cover the following areas:

		
			• Methodologies and strategies appropriate for 3-4 year olds

				• Auditory, visual, and kinesthetic modalities

		• Fostering phonemic awareness through rhyming stories, cheers and riddles for each individual letter

		• Chanting sounds with hand signals

		• Parental involvement through the “Phonemic Awareness Homework Booklets”

		• Hands-on blending activities

		• Estrellita centers (Games & Activities)

		• Assessment and monitoring

		

		
		

		
ESTRELLITA: Bridging the Gap from Non-Reader to Reader (K-1)

	
			Workshop Focus:


		
The standard Estrellita inservice has been modified to include the new, supplemental Games & Activities. In addition to the regular content, additional topics to be covered include:



		

			

				• Methodologies and strategies

						• Phonics in beginning reading

						• Auditory, visual, and kinesthetic modalities

						• Whole language strategies

						• Building fluency and comprehension

						• Parental involvement

						• Assessment and monitoring

						• Timeline for accelerated reading

							
				New "Games & Activities”:

						• A variety of different chanting activities

						• Hand signals for each picture and letter

						• Rhyming story and cheer for each letter

						• Phonemic Awareness Homework Booklets

						• Manipulative games to build blending skills
